Black Brown 1826

Share
*Sigh* I just don't get it. Why do so many companies insist on doing what they know nothing about and copying the work of others? I know, the answer--plain old greed.

Take the new Black Brown 1826 label (I don't quite understand the name and its never really explained; I assume that the date is to give it a heritage feel) by Lord & Taylor. Let's break it down.

1. There is no blackbrown.com, despite its prominent inclusion on print ads. Its just a gateway to the L&T site.
2. The glenplaid overcoat, the peacoat and all the merchandise shown in the multi-page ads in this month's GQ are not currently for sale on the website.
3. The gorgeous model in the ads (see pic) is replaced by a generic catalog model and photography on the site.
4. I've seen all this before-- at Gap, at Banana, at Brooks, at J. Press... and at L&T. Merinos, cashmeres, flannel...zzzzz....

Assuming your customer is stupid and has no fashion sense is never a good tactic. I hope someone can come up with something better before the L&T stores close for good.

UPDATE: Googling has revealed that this collection is designed by Joseph Abboud and there are plans to even open Black Brown 1826 stores in markets without a Lord & Taylor (i.e. most of the U.S.). DNR.com
