It still amazes me that in the "rediscovering" the old menswear stores and designs, Orvis remains an untapped goldmine.
A savvy prep shopper knows its the only store west of the Thames that stocks just about every Barbour coat and bag. Their house line of embroidered critter pants and tartan trousers is mindblowing and the staff have the laidback attitude of the way-gone general store.
Going on now is their seasonal tent sale, where everything is available at a fraction of the original retail. I'm getting this washable cotton cardigan sweater, with a foldover collar, sporty arm stripes and big patch pockets, (perfect for all the shells I'll be collecting on cool summer nights at the beach) with just a hint of Thom Browne.
