I've hesitated to write about the new Lands' End "we're here, too" collection Canvas because, frankly, its boring as hell. Receipe: take a healthy serving of J. Crew, a dollop of LL Bean, a splash of Gap, spread on a gag-inducing frosting of the word "heritage" and the result is a milquetoast interpretation of what most prep guys already have had in their closet for years.
Its too bad, because there's an endless supply of inspiration when it comes to creating a Northeast pseudo-prep line. You'll find very little of it in Canvas. Really, its like they somehow got their hands on a J. Crew buyer's report and reproduced everything that sold well. I.e., basics, basics, basics and nothing too "daring."
That being said, I do like the workshirts cut in colored chambray, even though three by other designers have hung in my closet for years. For a limited time, shipping is free and when you spend $100 or more, you'll get a free messenger bag-- which is actually the most interesting piece in the entire range.
