Wilkes Bashford, the Bay Area menswear store managed by Wilkes himself (pictured here; love the jacket, Ronnie!) since 1966, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and may become part of an unnamed luxury chain. Hopefully, the amazing San Francisco store will stay open. If you're visiting San Francisco, stop in for a look and buy something!
As a side note, I first became aware of Wilkes Bashford through the Tales of the City books by Armistead Maupin. You may remember that the devious closet case Beauchamp Day ran up a huge bill at Wilkes Bashford that his rich wife paid for.
