I've often been accused of not leaving well enough alone. It wasn't uncommon to find me at the office at 3am, still reworking a page layout or ad design that wasn't quite "there" for me. This finickiness extends to my wardrobe.
As we become more of a global culture, I think our style is suffering for it. Thanks to the internet, just about anyone in any part of the world can probably assemble the exact same thing you're wearing right now... with free shipping.
When considering a purchase, I look beyond its store presentation to how I would wear it and how I can tweak it to create an individual look. Take my new Bean mocs. They're in the swell new "Cactus" distressed leather style, but they come with a dark lace. I've always preferred the original yellow lace.
So I bought a pair of construction boot laces, doubled them up since they're so long and, voila, custom Beans.
Anyone out there looking to hire a freelance style consultant?
