My husband and I have had many friendly tiffs over pleated khakis. My argument is that extra material at the waist isn't flattering on anyone. His argument is that they're a wardrobe classic. Obviously he's wrong about this (he usually is), but I found a pair of vintage Austin Reed with a self belt with leather buckle that got me thinking. Maybe there is an exception to this rule. They look almost, dare I say, fresh.
