I'm the first to admit that Tom Ford is a genius... at styling. He's the top of the heap when it comes to taking old designs and making them fresh and relevant again to a shopping public that doesn't recognize a glammed-up rehash when they see it. These days, that seems to qualify as being a designer. I'm not really into his new business as haberdasher for the world's rich, effete men and favored arm candy of the Hollywood Wives. We've seen this story play out before-- Adrian, Norman Norell, etc. Just because you're hanging out with the Hollywood Wives doesn't make you one of them.
I do, however, think he (or some uncredited, underpaid designer) comes up with the best when it comes to eyewear. Again, he's taking classic styles and making them fresh, recognizing just what will push the trend envelope a little further and inspire knock-offs from Guess to Forever 21 to Chinatown. Seen here are the gradient lensed aviators with a crisscross design that I'm putting on my letter to Santa. I have to, they're nearly as much as my rent.
