About 3-Button Sport Coats

Share
I'm compelled to post this after seeing a man today that had... gulp... the bottom two buttons buttoned. I nearly fainted right there on the sidewalk.
Does it matter in relation to the economy or the security of the country? Actually, I believe it does. A well-dressed, properly groomed man is more confident and therefore more ready to face the world.

Only use the top button when its a lightweight jacket so the lapel doesn't flap in the wind. A heavier wool or herringbone or tweed will keep a nice roll without the button fastened. The middle button is always used-- don't let me catch you with only the top done, like the jacket doesn't otherwise fit. And never use the bottom unless the jacket is in danger of leaping right off your body. Its like leaving the last button on a cardigan undone, a small show on nonchalance.
