Today's Prep Birthday

No one made a better career out of playing the stereotype of a stuffed-shirt conservative Preppy like actor Conrad Bain, born on this day in Alberta, Canada in 1923.

During the 1970s, Bain had roles in films such as Woody Allen's Bananas and Lovers and Other Strangers, but he's best known for his roles as Dr. Arthur Harmon opposite Bea Arthur on Maudeand Phillip Drummond on Diff'rent Strokes (seen far left in the famous Nancy Reagan episode). Bain also appeared in Dark Shadows as the hotel clerk, Mr. Wells, seen at left in a natty shawl collar cardigan and bow tie.

  1. I didn't realize that he was still alive. I heard that he married a woman from my hometown, a former Miss Alabama...so I've heard.
