Like most kids of my generation, my imagination was sparked by what I saw on television. This was, of course, before YouTube and DVD releases and Nick at Night, when local television stations showed reruns of classic TV shows.
Fantasy Island was a special treat because it was like a variety show-- you never knew who would show up or what they would do. Barbi Benton, Sonny Bono, Charo and most of all Ricardo Montalban as Mr. Rourke, the dapper proprietor of Fantasy Island in his immaculate white suit, his pocket square perfect, his shoes without a smudge or a scuff.
Was this the way that dreams came true? I would wonder. I'm still figuring it out.
